An update from Shopware – Putting your safety first

With a heavy heart: SCD 2025 has to be cancelled

Published on June 2, 2025

Dear Community,

We were all looking forward to a smooth and successful Shopware Community Day 2025. Unfortunately, on Monday afternoon, June 2, we received the news that three unexploded bombs from World War II were discovered in the Cologne-Deutz district—right next to our event location, “Confex.” According to the City of Cologne, these bombs are scheduled to be defused on Wednesday, June 4.

The defusal requires the temporary closure of key civil infrastructure (including hospitals, train stations, bridges, and Rhine river traffic), as well as the evacuation of 20,000 people within a 1,000-meter radius of the site. Road closures will begin at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning.

After examining every option—moving to a new venue, delaying the start, switching to a pure livestream—safety regulations leave us no choice but to cancel the Shopware Community Day on 4 June. We take this step with a heavy heart, yet with full conviction that safety comes first.

The good news: We’re planning to stream the most exciting parts of our product news to all of you on the 17th of June during our Special Event! Additionally, we’re working on finding an alternative date for Shopware Community Day 2025 to celebrate our 25th anniversary with our amazing community later this year. We will also contact you immediately once we are able to announce a new date for the event.

The SCD tickets will stay valid for the new date (to be announced soon). If you prefer, we will refund you in full. For your personal travel & accommodation: Check your cancellation terms; many hotels inside the evacuation area waive fees.

We are truly sorry to have to take this drastic step and sincerely apologize for the inconvenience it may cause. However, we must follow the guidance of the authorities, and there was no other way to organize such a large event in a new location within the remaining time. Our fingers are crossed for the bomb disposal squad and everyone living in the Cologne area.
